Libor Michalek is the Chief Technology Officer at Affirm,
where he is responsible for all technology strategy and development
for the company's financial platform & products.
Prior to joining Affirm, Libor was an Engineering Director at
YouTube responsible for Application Infrastructure & Site
Reliability Engineering across multiple sites. Libor led
engineering teams through the migration of YouTube's Python &
MySQL infrastructure into Google's private cloud, the shift to a
daily release schedule, building of systems to handle Abuse, Fraud,
Security, and Support Engineering, all while maintaining a 99.97%
uptime target. During this tenure, YouTube tripled in page views,
hours of video watched, and revenue.
Before YouTube, Libor served as CTO of Slide, Inc. through its
acquisition by Google in 2010, where he was responsible for all
technology and development for the company's virtual communities
and social entertainment applications. Libor also served in
software architecture and management positions at Topspin (bought
by Cisco in 2005), Egroups.com (bought by Yahoo!), Talarian (bought
by Tibco), Thinking Machines Corporation, and the National Center
for Supercomputing Applications.
Libor holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where he and Affirm CEO Max Levchin
were classmates. In his free time, Libor enjoys skiing and
hiking.
